Hello everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful 2018. I decided in December of last year that I wanted to do a 2019 series for the things I finish in my Knitting life. In fact, I will also be entering them in an Along that I am helping host called “The Great Podcaster Craft Along 2019.” I’ll make a list of all of my FO posts in a page that you can find in the sidebar on the left-hand side. This way you can follow along with this series, if you so choose.
With all that being said, January has been an interesting month for my finishing mojo. Nevermind the beginning part of February. As a fair warning , I have a total of 11 posts going up today. Sorry if you get a lot in your feed today. But, I think it’s worth it. We’ll have to see. According to Knitmeter, I’ve finished a total of 5,413 yards so far this year. I’ve surprised myself, trust me…
I started this project 10/5/16 and called it “Simply Aware.” Originally, this project was started to celebrate Breast Cancer Awareness month. I used size 2 (US) needles and three colors of Premier Yarns Cotton. I used “Cotton Candy,” “Baby Pink,” and “Bright Peach.” This got me a total of 795.7 yards.
The combination of the cotton and the size needle were the reason why I kept delaying working on it. For a point of reference, the pattern “LaLa’s Simple Shawl” by LaLa (of The Knitgirllls fame) calls for size 10 needles and bulky wool. I’m not really a fan of cotton, in general. This cotton was better, but the needles made it take forever… I worked on it maybe one section or two at a time over the course of 2 years, skipping at least 6 months in between times I worked on it.
The reason why I started working on it again? Well, I entered the Harry Potter Knit & Crochet House Cup (HPKCHC for short, and what I will be calling it from now on). Basically, the HPKCHC revolves around the Harry Potter universe.
I’m in Hufflepuff, and every FO will win me “Imaginary” Points into the Cup just like the movies/books. I need to turn in 1 project per month to stay a Hufflepuff. So, you’ll notice that most of my FO’s this year will be revolved around the HPKCHC until at least March. I entered this project into a Detention OWL (yes, like the books/movies) with a bunch of projects that had been on my needles and stalled out for years. In future posts, I’ll just include the Class or OWL that my FOs will be entered into so that way you are all aware. Either way, this pushed me to finish the last section of this shawl by January 3rd.
Until Next Time! Happy Crafting!
