“Nobody Puts Baby In A Corner!” . . .

. . . That’s probably my favorite line that Patrick Swayze ever uttered in a movie.   If you don’t know that movie quote, that’s from Dirty Dancing.  This movie was made in 1987 and revolves around the story of a young woman named Frances “Baby” Houseman,  who learns the reality of the world around her.  She learns about who she really is, and what she wants from her life.  She gets a glimpse into the world of Johnny Castle, a dance instructor, as he teaches her how to dance.  She in turn, teaches him about how to stand up for himself and what he wants in life.

Dirty Dancing Poster

Dirty Dancing is directed by Emilie Ardolino, and the script is credited to Eleanor Bergstein.  Together, the director and writer use dancing as a way to bring two different classes together to teach each a lesson. Within this lesson, we also see that the couple fall in love.  This movie is chronological, and shows us the entirety of their relationship.  This gives their audiences the opportunity to see how each grows over the course of one summer.  I firmly believed that if the story had been told a different way or with a different style, we wouldn’t have the classic that this movie has become.

Here are the key actors in this film:

Jennifer Grey Jennifer Grey
Patrick Swayze Patrick Swayze
Jerry Orbach Jerry Orbach
Cynthia Rhodes Cynthia Rhodes
Jack Weston Jack Weston
Jane Brucker Jane Brucker
Kelly Bishop Kelly Bishop
Lonny Price Lonny Price
Max Cantor Max Cantor

If you would like to see an example of how the characters describe their relationship (and personally, my favorite parts of this movie), make sure you skip to 1:46.11 in this clip and watch it all the way to the closing credits.  Unless, you wish to see the whole movie to see what I see, for yourself.  Which I won’t be mad at!  Trust me.  It’ll be worth your time!   😉

More Movie Madness

I realize that this may seem a repeat, but I’ve just recently started a new class starring films and their impacts on society.  We are charged with writing on a blog every week during it.  Don’t be alarmed if you see this mixed in with my usual knitting chatter and #stashdash2015 posts.  Don’t worry, I haven’t been taken over my aliens (no matter what the Boov may want me to do…lol).  You’ll see a new tag popping up for these such posts.

I will understand if you want to give this series of my posts a skip, as I love talking about movies from time to time.  My glee at being able to do analyses of movies I watch during the weeks of this class may translate into LONG A$$ entries.  Having to do it for an assignment will be the highlight of my week…  Anyway, off I go.  Till later!
